Johnson Controls CEO Says Company “Ready to Lead the Charge” on Sustainability

Johnson Controls Chairman and CEO George Oliver recently shared his views on sustainability in a video campaign by the Business Roundtable. The series spotlights actions Business Roundtable member companies have taken to address climate change and promote sustainability. The campaign launched after this year’s Climate Week NYC and will lead up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26), scheduled October 31 to November 12 in Glasgow, UK.

In the video, Oliver said addressing climate concerns is important to Johnson Controls’ shareholders, employees and customers. “It will create jobs, make us more competitive and it is the right thing to do for our planet, the global economy and our bottom line,” he said.

Oliver, who also serves as energy & environment committee chair for the Business Roundtable, said the company is committed to achieving net zero carbon before 2040, and announced science-based targets for 2030.

“As we put forward in our new Sustainability Linked Bond, we’re committed to absolute emission reductions in 2025 too—and we think that immediate action is a must; we can’t wait a decade,” he said. “Solutions such as our OpenBlue digital platform can help our customers and suppliers get there, too—dramatically cutting emissions while saving customers significantly in energy and operational costs.”

He added that Johnson Controls is firmly committed and ready to lead the charge, transitioning to a lower-carbon economy. “We hope we are an inspiration and encourage more businesses to follow suit to create a sustainable future for all of us. Let`s do this together,” he said.
