FAQs about connected chiller service

  • What is a connected chiller?

A connected chiller transmits near-real-time information about its performance, energy use, maintenance requirements and more—beyond what's visible in a typical building automation system—to the cloud. This data is used to fuel advanced health and performance diagnostics and long-term trend comparisons – all accessible by logging into your connected chiller dashboard.

  • What chillers can be connected?

We support connectivity for almost YORK chillers and the majority of chillers from other major manufacturers. Smart-ready YORK chillers come with connectivity factory installed, which means they can be connected at the point of commissioning for a complete view of the chiller’s operation from day one.

  • Why should I connect my chiller if I have a BAS?

There are a number of reasons why you’d want to connect your chiller even if you have it connected to your BAS. First and foremost, a connected chiller is reviewing over 200 points of operation compared to 15 visible in a BAS. When you layer in the remote monitoring and review from our team of experts, you get the full

  • What if my team isn’t experienced in interpreting data?

Our connected service takes over much of the data gathering and analyzing—for insights you might otherwise miss. And we make it easier for your team to understand the data, with simple dashboards, tools like the Chiller Performance Index, and automated notifications.

  • Can I track chillers at more than one building?

Yes! Dashboards are set up hierarchal for your facilities so it’s easy to see chiller performance across multiple facilities and buildings all in one place.

  • If my chiller loses connection, will I lose that data?

No, if the chiller loses connection you will be notified and the chiller will begin local storage of the chiller data. Data can be locally stored for up to seven days. Once the chiller re-establishes connection that data will be uploaded to your dashboard for review.

  • What value does Johnson Controls add?

Years of expertise, and years of data. We know buildings, we know HVAC systems, we know chillers. What’s more, we can compare your chiller data to standards derived from 20+ years of compiled data using patented formulas. That translates to insights you can’t get elsewhere.
