AI is reshaping talent acquisition and with it comes a big opportunity: helping recruiting teams do more of what they do best. At a recent Indeed Leadership Connect roundtable, Mike Aronson, Senior Director of Global Talent Acquisition Operations at Johnson Controls, joined fellow talent acquisition leaders to discuss how companies are using AI to elevate recruiter impact and enable more strategic, human-centered hiring. A few themes that emerged from the discussion include:
- AI is empowering recruiters, not replacing them. AI is designed to enhance the capabilities of recruiters, not to replace them. By automating repetitive tasks such as interview scheduling and summarizing phone screens, AI allows recruiters to focus on strategic activities that add value to the business. Johnson Controls uses AI tools to free up recruiters from tactical work like scheduling interviews and summarizing phone calls, so they can deliver more value to the business.
- Building trust is critical. To overcome apprehension or resistance toward AI, it is crucial to build trust through ongoing education and transparency. Recruiters and hiring managers need to understand how AI tools work and how they can benefit from them.
- Embrace early adopters. Introducing AI through early adopter pilots can help teams gradually embrace the new technology. By starting with a small group of users, organizations can gather feedback, make necessary adjustments, and demonstrate the benefits of AI to the broader team. This approach helps in managing change fatigue and ensures a smoother transition.
- Ongoing support is essential. Continuous support is essential for the successful adoption of AI in recruiting. Organizations should offer resources and assistance to help recruiters and hiring managers navigate the new tools.
