Five reasons JADEC is one-of-a-kind
Highlights
Tony Mormino from the HVAC TV YouTube channel visited the Johnson Controls Advanced Development and Engineering Center (JADEC) in New Freedom, PA. Here’s what stood out for him about this unique facility.
What does the world’s most advanced test lab for chillers and air handlers mean for Johnson Controls YORK® customers? Here’s what Tony Mormino of HVAC TV discovered when he took a tour.
1. Investments to solve customers’ real-world challenges
The center features test bays larger than some homes, acoustic chambers floating on their own foundations and rooms that hit 131 °F (with others that go below -20 °F). This $150 million, 250,000-square-foot Johnson Controls Advanced Development Engineering Center is built to push systems to their limits – and beyond. It’s a standout facility with no equal in the world.
2. Peace of mind now and in the future
Long-term partnerships and strategic relationships give the JADEC team unique insights into what works now – and what needs to work tomorrow. Whether it’s pressure drop, refrigerant blends, system reliability or test-to-failure data, JADEC engineers do the homework to solve real-world problems and prevent failures before they happen.
With more than 20 labs designed to simulate diverse build loads, applications and climates, the facility tests the designs that will deliver a more sustainable, more dependable future.
3. Design that optimizes performance
For over 150 years, YORK® has delivered solutions that advance the industry. YORK® innovations have helped deliver:
- The very first air-conditioned commercial building.
- The first computer-controlled variable-speed heat pump.
- The first chiller optimized for low-GWP refrigerants.
But innovation isn’t easy. Every aspect of system design for today’s cooling and air handling solutions must be optimized for performance. So JADEC does the work to design, test and deliver the solutions needed for a more sustainable, innovative and competitive future.
4. Success that’s shared with customers
Everyone who works at JADEC takes pride in what they do and why they do it. A culture of innovation and continuous improvement drives this team. Their belief in doing well by doing good comes through in everything – from the solutions they create to how they work together.
At JADEC, success is shared and this starts with customers.
5. The team is making an impact now and for the long term
Most people don’t see the value created at JADEC. But the center’s engineers, techs, operators and leadership are all one team, doing the work behind-the-scenes to solve today’s challenges – while always asking what’s next.
This rings true repeatedly as they deliver on their commitment to engineer the future for the challenges of today.
“My biggest piece of advice for anyone in the sustainability space is to stay optimistic and persistent. The challenges we face are big, but with collaboration, innovation and a positive attitude, we can make a real difference.”
Katie McGinty, Johnson Controls Vice President and Chief Sustainability and External Relations Officer
