Johnson Controls and HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, recently hosted a partnership showcase for community leaders, elected officials and HACC students and instructors.
During the event, attendees were given an overview of the Johnson Controls Scholars Program, which provides scholarships, emergency assistance funding and valuable industry connections for HACC students enrolled in specific skilled trades programs. They also heard from local officials and a current Johnson Controls Scholars Program student and toured the facility, which is the primary training location for many of HACC’s skilled trades programs, including electrical technology, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and welding.
"Programs like HACC's are critical to train the next wave of talent and address the ongoing skilled trades workforce gap," said Katie McGinty, vice president and chief sustainability and external relations officer at Johnson Controls. "We are already seeing a return on this investment through the quality of the students graduating and I'm excited to watch as these talented individuals grow in their career."
“This program has been transformative for me – it provided essential tools for my classes, helped me repair my car so I didn’t have to spend hours on public transportation and offered incredible learning experiences."

Paul Arciba, a HACC student, also spoke at the event: “This program has been transformative for me – it provided essential tools for my classes, helped me repair my car so I didn’t have to spend hours on public transportation and offered incredible learning experiences. Completing my education has been a long road. I’m grateful for the support from Johnson Controls that has helped me get to this point, and I’m excited about the career ahead of me.”
Since 2023, Johnson Controls has donated $200,000 in funding to HACC through its Johnson Controls Community College Partnership Program (CCPP). Launched in 2021 to help students prepare for and embark on career paths in sustainable building practices, Johnson Controls has provided 30 community colleges so far with funding to expand access to educational programs in HVAC, fire, security and digital disciplines. It is on track to donate $15 million by the end of 2026.
