Rising energy consumption in commercial buildings had become a major concern for a global technology customer with sites across India. Budgets were monitored closely. Buildings functioned, but not as efficiently as they could. All the while, sustainability remained a priority. That's where Karthick Ramesh came in.

Karthick is a Senior Project Manager based in Bangalore, India. He’s spent over 10 years at Johnson Controls, building his career around integrated building management systems (IBMS) for large commercial facilities. Yet this project remains one of the highlights of his career.

The solution sounded straightforward: deploy an integrated building management system to reduce energy costs. Delivering it at scale was a much bigger challenge. Karthick knew that large-scale projects like this rarely fail because of technology. More often, they fall behind when timelines slip, teams are not aligned, or risks are not addressed early enough. But this wouldn’t happen on his watch.

The project required far more than technical expertise. Different sites had different requirements and timelines were tight. While many talented people contributed to the project, Karthick was the one keeping every moving part aligned. Working behind the scenes, he coordinated teams, managed risks and kept stakeholders aligned, ensuring the rollout stayed on track from start to finish.

“My team successfully deployed automation and centralized monitoring for chillers and HVAC systems connected to building management systems. Because of this, the customer could use smarter scheduling, continuous performance tracking and equipment optimization across the portfolio”, Karthick explains.

The results spoke for themselves. “Seeing the project go live successfully was extremely rewarding. Even better, for the customer, it meant significant energy savings without interruptions to operations, exactly as they had hoped”, Karthick says. In other words, he and his team delivered energy efficiency where it really matters.

Reliability over flash

Over the course of this project, Karthick noticed something he’d seen repeatedly when working with customers: the most valuable solutions are not always the most complex. “One thing that surprised me is that reliability and ease of operation matter more to customers than advanced features," he explains.

"Customers value systems that are stable, user-friendly and quickly responsive to issues, because that directly impacts their business continuity."

Two technicians looking at the board

This insight shapes how he runs projects. Rather than focusing only on systems and implementation, he works closely with operations teams to make sure solutions fit to their day-to-day needs. He’s known for staying engaged long after project delivery, helping maintain results over time.

Much of that work happens behind the scenes.

“One thing people might not know about my role is how much coordination and problem-solving goes into ensuring systems continue to operate smoothly after project handover,” he said.

For Karthick, long-term success isn't defined by technology alone. It's about giving customers systems they can trust to support efficient and reliable operations every day.

Karthick is one of thousands of our passionate people all across the globe who strive for energy savings in the face of rising costs. Every day, he and his colleagues bring their operational expertise to customer projects, delivering solutions that drive lasting energy efficiency and long-term results.
