Role/Company: Project manager for The Wings, Ghelamco
Elevating campus performance through unified building management
Since opening in early 2024, the Wings has demonstrated how a fully integrated building automation platform can drive measurable impact across a complex, mixed-use environment. The campus is Europe’s first building to achieve the triple certification BREEAM Excellent, WELL Gold, and DGNB Gold, reflecting its strong performance across sustainability, occupant well-being, and building resilience.
Metasys plays a central role in enabling these outcomes. By unifying HVAC, lighting, energy metering, and comfort systems, the platform helps facility teams streamline daily operations, maintain stability across the 50,000 m² site, and make informed decisions quickly through consistent, real-time data. Operators benefit from tailored operating modes, humidity management, standardized logic sequences, and single sign-on access that simplifies workflows.
The Wings’ extensive hydronic infrastructure – including Europe’s largest borehole energy storage field with 260 boreholes – is fully supported within Metasys. Through extended hydronic control capabilities, the system enables up to 30% energy reduction, helping lower emissions and manage operating costs without compromising comfort. Integrated heat pumps, air valves, energy meters, and HVAC controls work together to maintain efficiency across the building lifecycle, creating a robust foundation that adapts to evolving operational and environmental requirements.
