Johnson Controls achieves prestigious CDP ‘A’ score for environmental leadership
Johnson Controls has again been recognized for its leadership in sustainability transparency and performance, earning a place on the prestigious CDP annual ‘A List.'
CORK, Ireland, Jan. 13, 2026 – Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI), the global leader in smart, healthy and sustainable buildings, has again been recognized for its leadership in sustainability transparency and performance, earning a place on the prestigious CDP annual ‘A List’. This recognition by CDP underscores Johnson Controls’ commitment to sustainable practices that benefit both business and the environment. Johnson Controls is one of just 4% of participating companies globally that made the CDP ‘A list’ for transparency and action on climate change.
“The picture is increasingly clear: smart climate leadership is a business essential, driving performance and delivering results. When companies burn excess carbon, they burn cash - diverting resources from growth and innovation. I’m proud that Johnson Controls is leading in our own climate action commitments and delivering sustainability solutions to our customers and partners that drive a competitive edge,” said Johnson Controls Chief Sustainability Officer Katie McGinty.
Across industries, leaders are embracing the trifecta of electrification, efficiency, and digitization, cutting carbon while boosting profitability. Some standout examples include a hospital in Germany that tapped heat energy 200 meters below ground and realized a 30% cut in energy costs while producing enough heat to cover 80% of the hospital’s demand. In the U.S., Children’s of Alabama leveraged our OpenBlue AI-powered platform to achieve nearly $170,000 in annual energy cost savings — on top of the $700,000 saved using our efficient chillers and heat pumps. The trifecta is transforming operations, lowering costs and helping customers operate more sustainably.
Achieving an ‘A’ on the list places Johnson Controls among the global leaders demonstrating comprehensive disclosure, mature environmental governance, and meaningful action that drives greater resilience. To be honored and recognized in this manner, companies need to have credible transition plans aligned to a 1.5°C future, verified emissions data, action across the value chain, and robust risk management processes.
Johnson Controls received an ‘A’ in multiple categories including: business strategy, emissions reduction initiatives and low carbon products, opportunity disclosure, risk disclosure, and scope 3 emissions.
CDP’s scoring evaluates companies’ depth of reporting, understanding of environmental risks, and evidence of best practice - including ambitious target-setting and verified action. CDP data is widely relied on to guide investment and procurement decisions that support a sustainable global economy.
“Congratulations to all companies on CDP’s ‘A List.’ Businesses earning an ‘A’ score are proving that environmental ambition and commercial strength go hand in hand. High quality data gives leaders the confidence to make earth-positive decisions that secure long-term competitiveness, attract capital and safeguard natural systems. These organizations show what is possible when transparency becomes the foundation for action,” said Sherry Madera, CEO of CDP
