Supplier Diversity

Our Commitment to Supplier Diversity

Johnson Controls is a leader in supplier diversity. Since 1993, we have spent more than $21.6 billion with certified women- and minority- owned suppliers. Globally, we have included diverse and historically underutilized companies into more than 50 product and service categories to support our customer solutions.

Here are the initiatives and processes we use to help drive supplier diversity:

Strategic Growth Opportunity Targeting

We target spending categories with large dollar volumes of goods and services in order to grow diverse firms and encourage prime suppliers to form joint ventures, strategic alliances and distributorships.

Vendors with products and services that are potentially suitable for Johnson Controls are encouraged to complete a vendor profile in order to be considered for current and future projects.

Executive Education

We provide annual training in financial analysis, customer focus, leveraging the value chain, and leadership for managers of diverse firms via fellowships to:

  • Minority Business Executive Program at the Tuck School, Dartmouth College.
  • Kellogg School at Northwestern University.
  • University of Wisconsin's Minority Executive Program.
Straight Talk Sessions
Johnson Controls holds periodic "Straight Talk" orientation sessions in key cities throughout the United States. At these meetings with potential diversity vendors, the company's supplier diversity & business development team and procurement personnel explain the pre-qualification process and review active purchasing plans. Straight Talk sessions are free of charge.

The pre-qualification process is reviewed, along with active purchasing plans. Vendors with products and services that are potentially suitable for Johnson Controls are asked to complete a vendor profile. Vendor profiles are delivered to decision-makers for consideration on current and future projects.
