Aging systems limited security performance and operational control

The corrections facility's headquarters was operating with malfunctioning sliding doors and security controls that were more than 25 years old. Security personnel needed greater control over movement throughout the property and a more reliable system to help maintain a safe environment for correctional officers and occupants.

Deploying a modern connected security system

After assessing the facility's existing systems, Johnson Controls recommended a complete security retrofit. The project included replacing defective sliding doors, installing touchscreen access control technology and upgrading the outdated controls platform with a programmable logic controller (PLC) capable of managing lighting, audio, alarms, doors and sliding gates throughout the facility. Camera monitors were repositioned, ergonomic furniture was added and an intercom system was installed to improve communications and operator efficiency.

A safer, more connected and future-ready corrections facility

The modernization project created a safer and more secure environment for employees by improving system reliability and operational control. The connected security platform increased efficiency, minimized disruptive service calls and reduced system downtime, helping ensure continuous protection for the facility. The scalable architecture also enables facility managers to integrate additional security capabilities as needs evolve.

Outcomes included:

  • Enhanced safety and security for employees and occupants.
  • Improved system efficiency and reliability.
  • Reduced service interruptions and downtime.
  • Supports future expansion of security technologies.
