Johnson Controls supports the Sherman Phoenix

Sherman Park is one of the most historic and diverse neighborhoods in the city of Milwaukee. But during the summer of 2016, frustrations in the neighborhood boiled over in the form of violence and arson. In the aftermath of that unrest, some buildings in the area were vandalized, damaged and even destroyed. One of those buildings was a local BMO Harris Bank.

Thankfully, two Milwaukee leaders – developer Juli Kaufmann and entrepreneur JoAnne Sabir-Johnson – have stepped forward to help heal the neighborhood and restore the BMO Harris Bank building as an uplifting catalyst for economic development.

In partnership with Johnson Controls and several others in the community, Juli and JoAnne have created the Sherman Phoenix, a marketplace of locally owned restaurants, wellness services and positive cultural activities.

“The Milwaukee business community has been a critical piece of the puzzle in helping the Sherman Phoenix rise,” says Sabir-Johnson.

“Support from strong local partners like Johnson Controls has eased some of the financial burden associated with reimagining this space, and it has also meant that the tenants, customers and community members who gather at the Sherman Phoenix will have access to state-of-the art technologies,” adds Kaufmann.
